The Compartir Virtual International Congress (Santillana) brings together 4,000 Latin American school leaders

08-09-2020

Compartir, the comprehensive educational solution from Santillana, held its first Virtual International Congress, exclusively for the heads of educational institutions. With the slogan Together we're opening the schools of the future. A new context, new opportunities, the online event brought together 4,000 school leaders from 15 Latin American countries.

The congress was held between 19 and 21 August and was presented by Melina Masnatta, social entrepreneur, and inaugurated by Francisco Cuadrado, Global Director of Education at Santillana, who recalled that Compartir arose as a vision for the future, in which many of the elements which now accompany us were already present. The directors of Compartir for the countries which participated in this initiative were also present at the inauguration.

During the first session, the users who had signed up for the event were able to enjoy talks from international experts of the stature of Mario Alonso Puig, a physician and expert in emotional intelligence and leadership; Michael Fullan, an advisor and director of Nuevas Pedagogías para el Aprendizaje Profundo and Cristóbal Cobo, senior expert and researcher into Educational and Technological Policies.

The second day also featured a high-level programme, with John Hattie, researcher and director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute, and David Bueno, lecturer and expert researcher in the field of Neuroscience. This second day of the event culminated in 13 workshops, led by experts from Santillana and by some sponsors through Zoom, with subjects as varied as Educational Marketing, Assessment and 21 Skills. Together, they filled the capacity for participants.

The final day featured the participation of Richard Culatta, advisor and Chief Executive Officer of the ISTE and Laura Lewin, trainer, consultant and director of ABS International. To complete this digital encounter, Compartir paid a small tribute to the school leaders in the form of a video recognising the efforts they have made over these months of online education, and offered them a performance by singer Diego Torres, who ended with the song Color esperanza. The singer wanted to showcase the work of those who are part of the educational community. When you become a father, you become aware of how important education is. You as educators contribute greatly to society, he stated.

Sabrina Pardo, the director of Compartir in Argentina, was entrusted with closing the occasion, on behalf of all the directors of Compartir.

The guests were able to follow the event through the microsite www.congresocompartir.com and through an app which they could use to send their questions to the speakers and participate in surveys and competitions. They could also use these two channels to view the special talk given by María Acaso, the head of Education at the Museo Reina Sofía, on Art Thinking.

In this video, you can see a summary of the sessions. In addition, all the videos and materials are available at congresocompartir.com
