[ES][OR] Las Casas de la Cultura de El Salvador reciben donación de SantillanaEl Salvador’s Secretariat of Culture has welcomed a new donation from Santillana as part of its work in support of culture and education at all levels of the country’s education system, from kindergarten to high school.

The donation consists of 1,119 textbooks for the four core school curriculum subjects: Language and Literature, Social Studies and Civics, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, covering levels of study from first grade to the second year of baccalaureate.

The donation took place at an event on October 18 and was received by the Director of International Relations and Cooperation of the Secretariat of Culture, Alexis Campos, who said he was both delighted and grateful for the support that the publishing group provides to education and culture.

The books, worth around $ 16,000, will be handed over to the El Salvador Network of Cultural Centers and distributed according to the needs of the different communities where the Cultural Centers provide library services for young children, teenagers, adults, teachers and the general public.

"We expect this donation to be very useful for the Cultural Centers. We are aware of the need to encourage reading habits among children, young people and even adults. This is Santillana’s way of working with our population on issues of culture and education because we are aware that education is the foundation of development ", said the Coordinator for Institutional Projects and Corporate Social Responsibility at Santillana, Morena Garcia.

This is Santillana’s second donation this year to the Network of Cultural Centers, and follows a previous donation of 240 textbooks for students up to sixth grade in the four core curriculum subjects..

The Network of Cultural Centers has been offering community library services since 1973 and each center holds an average of 2,000 books. These donations will enable the libraries to offer a broader range of titles to the benefit the general public.
