First quarter figures from auditing body EGM highlight the paper's clear market lead within the sector of non-giveaway Spanish general-interest press. With 2,022,000 readers, the paper shows once again that it is Spain's top-ranking newspaper, in a quarter that saw the press sector as a whole registering its lowest readership figures since 2007. Overall, the press sector reported figures of 15.3 million readers in the first quarter, down 2% as compared to the previous quarter.
El País beats its nearest rival by almost 700,000 readers and is the top-ranking paper in Andalusia, Madrid, Valencia and Galicia. What's more, the average age of the paper's readership is the lowest among the country's leading titles -almost 600,000 are under 35. Meanwhile, 820,000 readers are women.
Among the sport's papers, As now reaches 1,304,000 readers.
