El País pays tribute to the greatest poets of the 20th century

19-11-2008

Juan Echanove, Sabina, Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Blanca Marsillach, Pedro Guerra, María Esteve, Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel and Juan Diego Botto were among the leading lights from the film and music world to join the poet José Manuel Caballero Bonald at the launch of  a new series of collected works of the great poets, published by El Pais.

Actors, musicians and other well-known faces were among the crowd at the launch, held in the Fernando de Rojas theatre at Madrid's Círculo de Bellas Artes. And, under the direction of Concha García Campoy, they lent their voices to the works of some of the greatest Spanish and Latin American poets of the last century, including Juan Ramón Jiménez, Federico García Lorca, Antonio Machado, Rafael Alberti, Pedro Salinas and Pablo Neruda.

With this new series of collected works the world's leading newspaper in Spanish, published by PRISA, aims to bring together El Pais readers and the most important 20th-century poetry in Spanish.

Each volume in this new series from El Pais includes a prologue written by the likes of Emilio Lledó, Caballero Bonald, Juan Luis Cebrián, Bryce Echenique, Sergio Ramírez, Joan Manuel Serrat, Jorge Edwards, Gonzalo Suárez and Manuel Rivas.

The books can be acquired along with the newspaper from next weekend (November 22 and 23) and subsequently every Wednesday for 8.95 euros each.
