24-03-2011

El País's circulation figures were up 9% in February over the same month last year, with sales at 424,748 copies daily (Monday-Sunday). Data from the audit bureau OJD, pending certification, confirm the PRISA title's lead, despite the current market climate which is seeing all major newspapers suffering declines in readership. What's more, El País has widened its lead over its main competitors.

In February, the gap between El País and  its nearest competitor widened to almost 160,000 copies (in January, the difference was approximately 125,000). The increase in February follows that of January, which was 6%.

El País's lead is even stronger on Sundays, with circulation at 537,292 copies.

Among the the sports dailies, As saw a slight fall of 1% and closed the month above 200,000 copies (209,384). And among business and finance papers, Cinco Días reported an increase of 6% and closed the month with 32,612 copies.
