Enrique Iglesias and Shakira among the winners at the 40 Premios Awards 2011

The biggest night in Spain’s music calendar, the Premios 40 Principales, were last night hosted by Tony Aguilar, Frank Blanco and Cristina Bosco.

The music world was represented by big names such as Chenoa, Antonio Orozco and Manuel Carrasco. Also handing out awards were actors and actresses such as Amaia Salamanca, Maxi Iglesias, Maria Adánez and Antonio Velázquez.

Enrique Iglesias, who performed a number of times, won the award for Best Music Video for 'Tonight (I'm loving you)', and also received the award for most influential Spanish artist in the world. La Oreja de Van Gogh picked up the Best Spanish Performer or Group. The Newcomer Award went to singer Pablo Alborán. Carlos Jean took the gong for Best Dance Pop Project. Best Song was won by Malu for 'Blanco y Negro'. Maldita Nerea won Best Album and the Mexican band Mana  won Best Tour.

In the Spanish language international categories, Shakira won Best Performer for the third consecutive year. The Colombian singer also won the award for most influential artist and producer in the Latin world and closed the night’s gala with a spectacular performance. The award for Best International Song in Spanish was won by Don Omar for 'Danza Kuduro'. The international awards in languages ​​other than Spanish went to Pitbull for Best Newcomer and LMFAO for Best Song for 'Party Rock Anthem'.

In the national categories for the Americas, best acts and groups were named for eight Latin American countries: Zoé (Mexico), Tan Biónica (Argentina), Los Vasquez (Chile), J. Balvin (Colombia), Akasha (Costa Rica), Los Reyes Vagos (Guatemala), Brito (Ecuador) and Joey Montana (Panama). The ceremony was broadcast live on Los 40 Principales, 40TV (High Definition) and the website los40.com. A & E was responsible for broadcasting throughout Latin America.
