Exclusive mobile-phone service, EL PAÍS Plus, launched

El País has launched an exclusive new mobile-phone based alerts service, aimed at delivering the most important editorial content of the day as well as confidential information, which will be available to users of the application.

EL PAÍS Plus subscribers will receive, first thing every morning, an SMS alert giving them instant access to the day's news. Users will also be able to personalize a wide range of services (including weather, traffic, TV schedules, lottery results and horoscopes), which will be delivered to their specially adapted mobile-phone page.

The EL PAÍS Plus service will be available initially to Vodafone subscribers as an SMS alert and as an application at the Vodafone 360 store. In both cases, the service is available for a free one-month trial period. The cost, from the second-month, will be ¤1.50 (plus VAT) per week.

To contract the service, users must simply text ALTA ELPAISPLUS to 795543. Alternatively, the service may be contracted as an application at the Vodafone 360 store. The service will be made available through other mobile phone operators in the near future.

With this latest initiative, El País shows once again its commitment to offering quality content adapted to the needs of its users in keeping with its spirit of reaching the public via all kinds of platforms and formats.

With EL PAÍS Plus, the newspaper once again proves it's a pioneer in the development of exclusive services at both a national and international level. El País was the first Spanish daily newspaper to launch a native application for iPhone as well as the first to sign a deal with Amazon allowing it to offer a version for Kindle -available since last month.
