The Valladolid Press Association pays tribute to the journalist for the program broadcast from Panama for all spoken-word stations in the PRISA Radio network.
The veteran Spanish journalist and broadcaster Iñaki Gabilondo was honored last Friday with the eighteenth Miguel Delibes National Award for Journalism, given by the Valladolid Press Association (Spain), for his program La lengua que nos une (The language that unites us), broadcast from Panama on October 27. The special program was an initiative of PRISA Radio and was broadcast to stations in Mexico ( W Radio ), Chile (ADN Radio), Colombia (Caracol and W Radio ), Argentina (Continental), Costa Rica (ADN) , Panama (Radio Panama) and Spain (Cadena SER .
Members of the jury, who chose PRISA Radio and Gabilondo from among 30 nominees, included: the winner of last year’s Miguel Delibes National Award for Journalism, Isaias Lafuente; the director of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language, José Manuel Blecua; the editor-in-chief of El Norte de Castilla, Carlos Aganzo; the deputy chief editor of 20 Minutos, Virginia Pérez; the Communications Director of Aena, Antonio San José;, the lifetime trustee of the Miguel Delibes Foundation, Emilio de Palacios; and the President of the Valladolid Press Association, Jorge Frances. Beatriz Sanz acted as secretary.
The jury lauded in its decision the enormous effort demonstrated by this special program "to reflect the wealth and diversity of the Spanish language throughout the different Spanish-speaking countries."
The eighteenth Miguel Delibes National Award for Journalism will be presented on January 23 at an awards gala to be held in the Sala Miguel Delibes at the Teatro Calderon in Valladolid (Spain).
