Julio Alonso Peña named CEO of AS

[ES][ME] Julio Alonso PeñaThe Board of Directors of Diario AS S.L. has appointed Julio Alonso Peña as CEO . Alonso replaces Jose Angel Garcia Olea, current head of Administration and Treasury at Prisa.

Julio Alonso Peña, 46, was born in Zamora and holds a degree from the Catholic Institute of Business Administration (ICADE) at Comillas Pontifical University. He joined Prisa in 1995 as head of Administration and Finance and was appointed CFO of Prisa in 2000, the year the group went public.. In 2001 he was made head of Finance and Organization at El País  and in 2003 he became managing director of resources of the same newspaper.

In 2009, Julio Alonso Peña was appointed director general of Agrupación de Servicios de Internet y Prensa (ASIP), a company that oversees all the financial services and resources of Prisa Noticias, a position he held simultaneously with that Director of Strategy and Business Development for Prisa Noticias after 2011. His professional experience is in the areas of  financial and resource management in the media sector and business transformation processes, of which he has considerable industry knowledge. Alonso was named COO of Prisa Noticias and managing director of El País in September 2012.

His predecessor, José Ángel García Olea, holds a degree in Economics from the University of the Basque Country and a law degree from UNED (the Open University),  He has developed much of his career at Diario AS, where he was managing director from 1996 to 2004 before subsequently becoming the head of the management of specialist press (Diario AS and Cinco Días), Regional Newspapers and Prisa’s Magazines. Subsequently, García Olea was appointed managing director of Ediciones El País and CEO of AS, where is now handing over to Julio Alonso Peña.
