Loqueleo launches its first “inclusive” novel Love is too complicated

28-10-2016

The graphic novel, by Andrés Guerrero, is titled El amor es demasiado complicado: 12 historias para todos aquellos que sienten y piensan en el amor (Love is too complicated: 12 stories for those who think about and feel in love). It is a collaborative effort between Loqueleo and the project AMÁS Fácil that aims to make reading accessible to people with intellectual disabilities and create a more accessible world for everyone.

The work brings together a dozen true stories, featuring characters of different ages, genders and identities, and encourages readers to reflect on harassment, frustration, Alzheimer's, passion ... and all the stories favor the development of values such as inclusion, equality, respect and self-esteem.

The project owes much to four key players: a comprehension focus group, comprised of a diverse group of adolescents, immigrants, people with disabilities and the elderly; the author and illustrator, in this case Andrés Guerrero; and a specialist advisor in Easy Reading, Oscar García Muñoz (Dilofácil). The work was subsequently reviewed by a team from AMÁS Fácil, an association that has partnered with Santillana to promote access to reading for all.

The book has already hit Spanish bookstores this week and will have its official launch on November 8 at the Civic Center "Rigoberta Menchú" in Leganés, Madrid.
