Malu is the night's big winner at the 40 Principales Awards 2014, taking home three statuettes

One Direction and David Bisbal each take home two

Enrique Iglesias, Jason Derulo, Wisin, Ed Sheeran, Birdy, Dvicio and Leiva were also among the winners at the 40 Principales Awards

The biggest night for music in Spain, the 40 Principales Awards, were helñd in style on Friday, December 12.  Now in their ninth year, the awards have fast become the most prestigious such event to pay tribute to the top artists and performers of the year.

The night's big winner was Malu, who took home three awards (Best Artist / National Group, Best Song (for A Prueba de Ti) and Best Festival, Tour or Concert (for 'Tour Si'). The British band One Direction was honored with two awards (Best International Artist / Group and Best Video (for Story of my life) while David Bisbal also picked up two statuettes, Best Album (for Tu y Yo) and the Special Award for an international tour by a Spanish artist. The winners also included, with one award each, Enrique Iglesias (Best Music Video 'Bailando'), Jason Derulo (Best Song 'Dirty Talk'), Wisin (Best Latino Artist / Group), Ed Sheeran (Best Album 'X'), Birdy (Best International Newcomer) , Dvicio (Best National Newcomer) and Leiva (Special Award for best rock artist 2014).

The gala, presented by Tony Aguilar, Xavi Martínez, Daniel Moreno, Gema Hurtado, Uri Sabat, Daniela Blume, Cristina Boscá and Oscar Martinez, began starring Midnight Red who played his famous song 'Take me home'. Then the deLeiva, Inna and Pablo Alboran performances, which delighted the audience with their hits 'Finally' and 'Steps zero'. At Malaga will siguieronSweet California and Cris Cab. The big winner of the night, Malu, interpreted 'proof you'. He also took the stage Maldita Nerea with 'Look inside'. The Barclaycard Center of Madrid vibrated with a performance by One Direction with its theme 'Steal my girl'. David Bisbal was the next to jump on stage to perform 'Ten thousand ways' and 'No dawns'. Behind him, Birdy and Dvicio, and the final stretch of the gala featured performances by Melendi, Tha Vamps and the spectacular closing deWisin.

The world of music, film, television and sports, was represented, among others, David Bustamante, Dani Martín, Marta Sánchez, Belén Rueda, Jesús Castro, Luis Miguel Segui, Antonia San Juan, Adrián Rodríguez, Joaquín Reyes Sandra Barneda, Luis Salom and Alex Rins.

The ceremony was broadcast live on the 40 Main, 40 TV, Los40.com, Divinityy the Argentine channel HTV for Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela, United States, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and Haiti. Telecinco broadcast the gala on Saturday, December 13, starting at 09.00 hours.
