The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) announced today that the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa has been named winner of the inaugural Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language.
The awards jury decided by a majority decision to pay tribute to the Latin American writer “for the contribution he has made, in the Spanish language, to enriching the heritage of mankind”, said Royal Spanish Academy director, José Manuel Blecua.
It was also reported that the prize is endowed with a $ 250,000 cash award.
