He was replaced that same day as Director of Education by Miguel Barrero Maján, a professional with extensive experience in the educational and publishing worlds, in both Spain and Ibero-America, and who has long had links with our organization.

Miguel Barrero Maján has a degree in Educational Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's Degree in New Information and Communication Technologies from the UNED. He spent two years teaching before moving to the publishing sector.

Since then, he has spent his entire career within Grupo Santillana, the leading textbook publisher in the Spanish- and Portuguese-language markets. He has worked in practically all areas of management and business: he started in the Department of Market Research and Technical Promotion before being placed in charge of launching regional publishing imprints. He was subsequently appointed managing director of Children's and Extracurricular Books, before being named managing director of Education of Santillana Spain. He was then put in charge of Santillana Spain (textbooks, trade books and general interest, distance learning, language learning) for four years, followed by a three-year stint as Global Managing Director of the Education Division,  where he gained experience in the markets of 22 countries (all Latin America, including Brazil, and Spain and Portugal). He has been part of the Group's Executive Committee for more than a decade.

From September 2010 to 2015, he was managing director of Santillana Digital. He is currently managing director of R + D + I of Santillana.

Throughout his career, he has represented the company in institutions related to the world of books. In January 2018, he was named president of the Publishers’ Association of Madrid and he also serves as vice president of the Spanish Federation of Publishers.
