PRISA Radio maintains lead in Spain’s radio market

Cadena SER has led the radio market for the past two decades

In 1993 Cadena SER became Spain’s leading radio network, and it’s a lead the network has held, uninterrupted, over the past two decades . According to the latest round of EGM figures (Estudio General de Medios), SER maintains its clear lead, with 4,564,000 listeners tuning in to the station Monday through Friday. That’s a lead of 2,104,000 listeners over its closest competitor, Onda Cero.

The four national spoken-word radio networks in Spain ( Cadena SER , Onda Cero, COPE and RNE) have a total of ten million listeners, and almost half , 45% , tune in to Cadena SER .

 

SER remains the benchmark when it comes to news and entertainment

SER’s audience lead is evident across all time slots . The programs Hoy por Hoy, La Ventana and Hora 25, have all increased their leads over their rivals.

In the morning , Hoy por Hoy , with Pepa Bueno and Gemma Nierga , has almost 3,000,000 listeners compared to 1,888,000 daily listeners for ' Herrera en la Onda ' and COPE’s 1,044,000 for ‘La Mañana’.

The lunchtime news program, led by José Antonio Marcos , Hora 14 , registered 629,000 listeners. The weekend news , led by Esther Bazan, boasted an audience of 505,000 listeners on Saturdays and 445,000 on Sundays.

According to the latest EGM audience figures ,La Ventana has 833,000 listeners daily . Carles Francino’s program is Spain’s favorite evening radio program, considerably ahead of  rival ‘Julia en la Onda’, which has 483,000 followers.

Hora 25continues to win over listeners. In the latest EGM study,  the program has increased its audience as compared to the previous quarter , with the figure now standing at 1,365,000 listeners, nearly 800,000 more than rival, '‘La Linterna’, broadcast by COPE . Angels Barceló’s program has spent fifteen years as audience-share leader among night-time news and current affairs programs.

At the weekend , SER also maintains its indisputable lead. The program  A vivir que son dos días has a total of 1,926,000 listeners on Saturday, nearly double the second-ranked Onda Cero show, ‘Te doy mi palabra’.' On Sunday, Javier del Pino’s program has 1,578,000 listeners compared to one million for its competitor.

Macarena Berlin’s program,Hablar por Hablar, registered 421,000 daily listeners . The film program La Script, , led by Maria Guerra has 288,000 fans.  Milenio 3  has 483,000 listeners, and  Los Toros,, with Manolo Molés , stands at 437,000 .

 

Sports on SER, unbeatable

Jesus Gallego, with SER Deportivos,, remains top of the league for sports news in the afternoons with 489,000 listeners.

José Ramón de la Morena, meanwhile, boasts 18 years of uninterrupted leadership. According to the latest EGM figures , El Larguero has a total of 945,000 listeners -- easily double the figure of his main rival , COPE’s ‘El Partido de las 12’ .

Weekend evenings are led by Carrusel Deportivo,, clear audience leader for the past 18 years. Manu Carreño and José A. Ponseti had 1,628,000 listeners for their Saturday broadcast, virtually the same as on Sunday, 1,631,000 . The evening sports program maintains its lead once again, even though SER’s main competitor, COPE , has added two hours of programming , on both Saturday and Sunday.

 

Top of the charts for music

40 Principales  is the second most listened to radio station in Spain and ranks first among music channels . According to the latest EGM figures , 40 Principales has a total of 3,616,000 listeners daily, Monday through Friday.

Anda Ya, the 40 Principales morning show led by Xavi Rodríguez, has more than 1,600,000 listeners and attracted more than 100,000 new fans compared to the third quarter of 2012. The new program,No te cortes, with Uri Sabat and Daniela Blume, which launched last September, has more than 600,000 listeners.Yu: no te pierdas nada,, with Dani Mateo, leads in its time slot .

Cadena Dial is the second most listened to music station in Spain with an audience of 2,177,000 listeners. The program Atrévete,, directed and presented by Jaime Cantizano , starts the season with over 1,000,000 listeners.

Maxima FM, has 754,000 listeners. m80 Radio reaches an audience of 551,000 listeners and Radiolé, 481,000 .

According to comScore data published in October 2013 , Cadenaser.com has 1,140,000 unique users, giving it a clear lead over its nearest rival.
