PRISA reorganizes its audiovisual unit under the directorship of Javier Diez de Polanco

11-02-2009

PRISA has embarked on a process of restructuring its audiovisual sector under the directorship of Javier Diez de Polanco. This revamped Unit will be now structured in five divisions: Pay TV, Free-to-view TV in Spain, Free-to-view TV in Portugal, Audiovisual Production, and Direction of Operations.

The Pay TV division brings together all of the activities of Digital+ (the pay TV satellite platform) which distributes Canal+ premium channels, as well as a wide range of thematic channels, other options and services.

The Free-to-view TV in Spain division is organized around Cuatro and digital terrestrial TV products. Cuatro, in both its digital and analog versions, alongside the digital versions of CNN+ and 40 Latino, will make up the Free-to-view TV division in Spain.

Audiovisual Production is composed of the output of Plural/NBP (a company owned by Media Capital) for the Spanish, Portuguese and US markets, as well as all the Group's technical services.

The Free-to-view TV in Portugal division - operated by Media Capital through Portugal's clear audience leader, the free-to-view TV channel TV1, will soon be adding a 24-hour news channel to its portfolio.

The Direction of Operations division will be responsible for the administration, finances, management control, purchases, information technology, human resources and other general services.

The reorganization of the Audiovisual Unit responds to a need to improve the performance of already existing businesses as well as that of seeking out new business opportunities by taking advantage of the synergies between the different areas, and by adopting cross-company policies which will better harness those resources shared by the different business activities.

The general directorship of the Pay TV division will be taken over by Ignacio Campo, previously the director general of Purchases and Rights Management at Sogecable.

Daniel Gavela will continue to work as Director General of Cuatro, and Juan Casal, director general of Sogecable Media, will remain in charge of promoting the different TV advertising products of the group. José Luis Sáinz, meanwhile, will be responsible for  Audiovisual Production.

Carlos Abad, till now in charge of the business side of Sogecable's Pay TV, has decided to pursue a new direction in his professional career after many years of dedication to the company, during which he has been instrumental in making Digital+ the leading provider of Pay TV in Spain.
