LAUNCH OF 50TH ANNIVERSARY WEBSITE

The date chosen for this announcement is apt. On July 18, 1966, exactly 50 years ago, what is now LOS40  made its first ever broadcast with the name La Lista de los 40 Principales (The Top 40 Chart) with the very first No. 1 hit being the classic Monday, Monday (The Mamas and The Papas). It was a brand new two-hour space that aired on Radio Madrid (now Cadena Ser) and its goal was to treat listeners to the week’s biggest hits. It was soon a huge hit itself,  thanks to its light-hearted tone, the music played – with a an unprecedented amount of airtime for  international music – and the show’s commitment to being a springboard for up-and-coming bands. In short, here was a totally new way of understanding and consuming radio. Since then it has positioned itself as audience leader for entertainment for Spanish-speaking youth and the is top global music radio brand in the world.

This site brings together the past, present and future of a station that is part of the soundtrack to all our lives.
