According to latest EGM figures, Cadena SER is set to close 2014 as undisputed leader of Spanish radio -- and the broadcaster can now boast an uninterrupted 21-year lead. As the network marks its 90th anniversary, Cadena SER reported a figure of 4.725 million listeners, up 159,000 over the previous quarter. The gap with its closest competitor, Onda Cero, is of over two million listeners.

Cadena SER is widely preferred by radio listeners

Pepa Bueno and Gemma Nierga attracted more than three million listeners with their show Hoy por Hoy, with a total of 3,103,00 fans tuning in compared to 2,001,000 for Onda Cero’s 'Herrera en la Onda'. The lead over COPE is of more than two million listeners every morning.

The lunchtime news bulletin anchored by José Antonio Marcos, Hora 14, has consolidated its reputation for daytime news programming with 625,000 listeners. Meanwhile, the weekend news programs, anchored by Esther Bazan, recorded an audience of 388,000 listeners on Saturdays and of 379,000 on Sundays.

La Ventana also saw its ratings up, with nearly 900,000 listeners tuning in to Carles Francino every afternoon.

SER’s evening and nighttime news programs were also in the lead thanks to Hora 25. Angels Barceló clocked up 1,166,000 listeners daily, far ahead of the 600,000 registered by COPE and Onda Cero’s figure of 547,000.

Javier del Pino registered 1,760,000 listeners on Saturdays and 1,836,000 on Sundays. A vivir que son dos días is the second most listened to SER program.

Hablar por Hablar with Macarena Berlin registered 466,000 daily listeners. Milenio 3, had 454,000 listeners, and Los Toros, with Manolo Moles, stands at 212,000.

Sports on SER remain unbeatable

SER Deportivos with Francisco José Delgado 'Pacojó' had 447,000 listeners.

El Larguero , with its 25-year history, holds steady over the one million mark with 1,085,000 listeners on weekdays. The program led by José Ramón de la Morena has well over twice as many listeners as its nearest rival, COPE’s ‘El Partido de las 12’ in the ranking for evening and nighttime sports programs.

Carrusel Deportivo, Jesús Gallego and the program’s new team have proved a huge hit with sports fans, thanks largely to the show’s commitment to a new way of narrating live sport, its improved sports analysis with a solid team of collaborators, and its engagement with fans on social networks. The result: Carrusel Deportivo is the top-ranking sports program with 1,716,000 listeners on Saturdays and 1,675,000  on Sundays. This lead is all the more remarkable given that the show’s rivals broadcast for two hours longer on both Saturday and Sunday.

40 Principales attracted 42,000 new listeners for a total of 3,245,000 fans.Anda Ya, the 40 Principales morning show led by Dani Moreno, remains the most listened to music program with 1,473,000 listeners.
