Rafael Fraguas wins the Press Association of Madrid's Francos Rodríguez Award 2009

The deputy head of the local news section of El País, Rafael Fraguas, has been awarded the Francos Rodríguez Award of the Press Association of Madrid (APM) 2009. The prize, awarded by his peers, honors the career of the Madrid journalist.

"The strength that comes from the struggle for the truth. That is the essence of journalism," Fraguas said as he accepted the award from the president of the APM, Fernando González-Urbaneja, at the headquarters of the Madrid-area regional government. Alongside him, five other colleagues were honored at this, the 71st, edition of the Awards: Juan Pedro Quiñonero (ABC), winner of the Rodríguez Santamaría Award, Alberto Surio (Euskal Irrati Telebista), winner of the Víctor de la Serna Award; María Peral (El Mundo), winner of the Javier Bueno Award; Alfonso Merlos (Cope), winner of the Larra Award, and José Ángel Ezcurra, the creator of Triunfo, winner of the Miguel Moya Award.
