Santillana ebooks to be available in libraries worldwide via OverDrive

23-01-2012

OverDrive (www.overdrive.com), the largest digital distributor of eBooks and audiobooks for libraries and schools, has announced an agreement with six different publishing groups which will add thousands of titles to its already extensive catalog of over 700,000 digital titles worldwide. The landmark agreement will see the wider availability of important works in languages such as Spanish, Russian, Swedish, Portuguese, Italian and Turkish.

Readers around the world will thus be able to enjoy some of the most famous titles, both fiction and nonfiction, from the publishing group Santillana USA, such as Water for Elephants, Eat Pray Love and the bestselling Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer .

OverDrive provides digital distribution services to more than 18,000 libraries, booksellers (retailers) and educational institutions worldwide. Its eBooks, audiobooks, music and much more, are available on a wide range of devices and systems including Windows, Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Sony Reader, Nook, Android, Blackberry, and Kindle (only in U.S. libraries).

Users of e-libraries (with OverDrive provided content) can easily download eBooks from home and enjoy them on their device for a limited number of days. On the expiry of the loan period, which may vary according to the title and the library, the file is deleted from the device, though users can, of course, return the eBook before the due date.

OverDrive's popularity is such that in September they announced support for Amazon devices (one of the most closed markets), so that U.S. Kindle users can now also read eBooks provided by American libraries and educational institutions.
