25-04-2011

Santillana and the Inter-American Confederation of Catholic Education (CIEC), based in Colombia, have signed a collaboration agreement for the implementation of a program aimed at improving the quality of education through the use of educational systems, print and digital teaching content, and information and communication technologies (ICT) in all schools affiliated to the CIEC in the Americas.

More than 50,000 Catholic schools belong to the Confederation, with more than 900,000 teachers serving about thirty million children in 23 American countries whose official languages are Spanish or Portuguese, as well as Haiti, Curacao, Canada and the United States.

The agreement will see the organization of workshops and similar activities in all countries in the region aimed at school managers and teachers in the Confederation. They will enjoy direct access to the latest  innovative educational products and services developed by Santillana.

The agreement will enable Santillana to discover the views, concerns and assessments of a large group of qualified teaching professionals. Santillana will also publish and distribute throughout the Americas the quarterly journal Educación Hoy (Education Today) while the website of the CIEC (www.ciec.edu.co) will provide product information and educational services from the publishing house. Furthermore, both entities have agreed to send educational experts to national and international forums, and to explore the possibility of carrying out educational projects jointly.

CIEC is a nonprofit institution in the service of education in the Americas, whose objectives include the dissemination and implementation of educational principles inspired by the values of the Gospel, and to promote educational quality.

This agreement is part of the policy of collaboration and cooperation that Santillana has long practised with leading public and private educational institutions in the Americas aimed at educational and professional development. As the leading publisher in the 22 countries where it operates, Santillana's programs are designed to comprehensively cover the full scope of education, from school textbooks, teacher training, literacy programs, the introduction of ICT, library projects and projects aimed at fostering reading, as well as professional training for entrepreneurs.

Santillana thus strengthens its position of institutional leadership as an American company, whose ultimate goal is to contribute to the provision of universal and quality education.
