SER opens its doors to the Prince and Princess of Asturias

19-04-2010

SER has become the first private radio broadcaster to be visited by the Prince and Princess of Asturias. The royal visit started off at the 40 Principales editorial offices and ended with the royals signing the visitors' book "We are delighted," said the Prince, "that today, twenty years after the inauguration of these facilities by the King and Queen, we have had the opportunity to pay a visit as well . We hold in high esteem all those who work for Spain's leading radio broadcaster and at  Union Radio, which is quickly growing internationally, especially in Latin America. Thank you for your hospitality and your daily commitment to keeping so many millions of Spanish and Latin American listeners informed and entertained.

During a working meeting with the directors of Union Radio, Prince Felipe showed a particular interest in the development of Digital Radio and Union Radio's expansion in Latin America and, especially, the USA. The Prince of Asturias recognized the vital role of Union Radio in showing the relevance of radio broadcasting in an audiovisual world

Augusto Delkáder, CEO of Union Radio, had earlier welcomed Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia, recalling that the Prince's great-grandfather, Alfonso XIII, opened Unión Radio in 1925, and explaining that today's visit was following in a royal tradition: "Fortune would have it that the royal family is with us again. Your  visit coincides with the culmination of our work that has lasted 4 years."

The meeting included a video compilation of the most important radio broadcasts since 1925, including the 9/11 attacks, the March 11 Madrid bombings, and the wedding of  the Prince and Princess of Asturias. The video also included a selection of radio bloopers, which certainly enlivened the meeting.

Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia then visited the new central radio studio of Cadena SER as well as the Los 40 Principales studio, where the royals watched broadcasting in action. SER's biggest names - Carles Francino, Angels Barceló, Gemma Nierga and Monserrat Domínguez - received the royal couple at the main editorial offices and the Prince and Princess chatted with the heads of the different divisions before moving on to the sports department for a group photo.

At the end of the  visit, the couple was presented with a digital picture frame and an album of photos recalling the ties between the royal family and the Gran Via 32 facilities over the years. They were also given a compilation of music from Los 40 Principales in various media formats.

A lunch with the station's leading broadcasters and managers closed the couple's royal visit to Unión Radio.
