The 40 Principales network lends its support to the Tree is Life initiative to combat climate change
For another year running, the 40 Principales radio network has presided over one of the most prestigious awards in the music industry, the 40 Principales Awards, bringing together the hottest national and international artists for a lavish music gala.
The 40 Principales network is donating the proceeds from the gala to the project The Tree is Life, which aims to plant 10 million trees throughout Spain . This initiative, declared an event of exceptional public interest by the Government, stresses the importance of forests in combating climate change and in the reduction of greenhouse gases, thereby demonstrating that it is possible to build a sustainable future.
The Tree is Life is an initiative that is organized under the auspices of the Spanish Timber Foundation (Fundación Española de la Madera) and encourages the use wood from sustainably managed forests. This promotes the sustainable economy and lets trees get on with their their job of storing CO2, a natural process that mitigates climate change. It is estimated that the program could offer Spain savings in emission rights equivalent to 2.2 million tons of carbon dioxide over a period of 40 years, with a projected increase of 74,000 cubic meters of wood annually , as well as lead to the creation of 2,000 jobs.
On December 12, representatives of the The Tree is Life attended the 40 Principales Awards gala to inform all those in attendance about the project and to distribute tree seed, so that all of us together can push that figure past the 10 million mark.
