Vicente Jiménez is named new managing director of SER and PRISA Radio in Spain

25-02-2015

PRISA Radio CEO, Andrés Cardó, has appointed Vicente Jiménez as managing director in Spain. The appointment heralds a new era for Spain’s leading radio group. Vicente Jiménez has been entrusted with a range of goals, including: accelerating the growth of the company; consolidating and enhancing the visibility and influence of PRISA radio stations, including SER and the music broadcasters, in Spanish society; spearheading the transformation of the brands in the digital environment; and attracting new listeners, viewers and advertisers.

Barcelona-born Jiménez, aged 52, has a degree in Journalism from the School of Information Sciences at the UAB. He also completed a management development course at the IESE Business School in Madrid and is a fellow of the German Marshall Foundation.

He began his professional career at the newspaper El Periódico de Catalunya (Grupo Zeta) where he worked between 1984 and 1990. In 1990 he joined the staff of El País in Madrid.  In January 1994 he took charge of the weekly leisure and entertainment supplement El País de las Tentaciones, which was a huge hit with young readers thanks to its fresh, innovative design, and which earned him a number of awards. He subsequently held the positions of editor-in-chief for Madrid news and editor-in-chief of the Society section, which included the weekly Education, Health and Future supplements. In 1999 he was appointed deputy editor of El Pais, a position he held for six years and where he focussed on political affairs and coordinated the six regional news sections.

In September 2005, Jímenez was named deputy editor-in-chief of El País. During his nine years in the post, the newspaper underwent a thorough digital transformation and adapted its content to new media platforms. El País fast became the leading Spanish-language newspaper on the Internet. This success was thanks largely to El País’s commitment to being a truly global newspaper, and saw the launch of new digital editions: the Americas edition and the Brazil edition. Since May 2014, Vicente Jiménez has worked in New York as a correspondent for the newspaper, and has represented El País and the parent company Grupo PRISA at a wide range of events as part of the conglomerate’s outreach strategy, and its endeavours to expand in the United States .

Jimenez replaces Alejandro Nieto Molina, who in recent years has consolidated the leadership of PRISA Radio stations in Spain. Alejandro Nieto is to head Strategy and Corporate Development at PRISA Radio.
