Winners announced for the thirteenth annual edition of the ‘El País de los Estudiantes' competition

On Tuesday 24 June, Madrid played host to the awards ceremony for the thirteenth annual edition of the ‘El País de los Estudiantes' competition (www.estudiantes.elpais.com), a school newspaper and student journalism program, sponsored by Endesa, which promotes journalism in Spanish schools.

 

The event was attended by Susana Díaz, president of the Andalusian regional authority.

The awards ceremony, held at the headquarters of EL PAÍS, was attended by the eighteen finalists, one from each of the Spanish Autonomous Communities. There were also representatives from the participating schools and the jury of journalists - chaired by Pedro Zuazua, director of communications at PRISA NOTICIAS.

 

The student newspapers were written, laid out and illustrated by the students over the course of the current school year. The main focus this year was on social issues, an area very close to the hearts of the budding journalists.

 

The winning schools are and their newspaper were:

1st Prize -. I.E.S. SANTA AURELIA (Sevilla) for their newspaper Diario Amate

2nd Prize -. C.E.I.P.S. GOYA (Terrassa, Barcelona) for their newspaper Goy@tec

3rd Prize -. I.E.S. LA FOIA D'ELX (Elche-Foia, Alicante) for their newspaper Entre Lineas

 

The ENDESA Award for Sustainability and the Environment went to IES VALLE DEL JERTE (Plasencia, Cáceres) for their section in the newspaper Periodistas del Valle.

 

The prizes consist of:

A cheque for trips worth € 12,000 for 1st prize winning school

A cheque for trips worth € 9,000 for the  2nd prize winning school

A cheque for trips worth € 6,000 for the  3rd prize winning school

In addition, each center has received an additional € 6,000 cheque for computer equipment.

 

The program also awards students a tablet in the "Special Awards" category:

 

Best Report for Ana González Cruz and Maria Elena Fernandez Muñoz for "Volver al Pupitre (Back to the Desk)." I.E.S. Juan Ortiz Rubio. Macael, Almería.

 

Best Interview for Diana Chamorro Tello and Marcos Fernández García Del Castillo for their interview with Jesus Gomez, Mayor of Leganes. I.E.S. Gabriel García Márquez. Leganés, Madrid.

 

Best Comic Strip for Adriana González Rodríguez for " Ocho efectos de asco (Eight effects of disgust)." C.P.E.I.P.S. Cervantes. Talavera de la Reina, Toledo.

 

Best Photograph for Maria Carvajal for her picture of the Sierra de Guadarrama. IES Rosa Chacel, Colmenar Viejo

 

Best English-language Section for Alina Ramallo Lopez and Gabriela Alejandra González Vera for "Living outside the system". I.E.S. Mencey Bencomo. Los Realejos, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

 

Best Advertising for Olga Alvarez Amorós and Maria Bernad Rico for their ad "Domestic Violence". I.E.S. La Foia d'Elx. FOIA-Elche, Alicante.

 

Best Blog for Miriam López Polo for "Eidolon". I.E.S. Cervantes. Madrid.

 

The award for Best Multimedia content, which includes a visit to Canal Plus went to:

Javier Salido Bridge and Lucia Mantecón Diaz for  "Torrelavega, the decline of a working town" and Adrian Vega Fernandez and Lucia Mantecón by "Vineyards of Mazcuerras", Both from I.E.S. Miguel Herrero Pereda. Torrelavega, Cantabria.
