888 candidates to vie for top prizes at the first ever Ondas World Podcast Awards

• The jury is set to announce the winners on February 23.  The awards are organized by PRISA Audio and Cadena SER in collaboration with Spotify.
• The prizes will be handed out at a gala ceremony to be held before summer, at a date and location to be announced.
• With contenders from more than 15 countries, the success of the event is assured and it’s set to become a key event in the calendar for the podcast sector.

The Ondas World Podcast Awards, organized by PRISA Audio and Cadena SER in collaboration with Spotify, have been deluged with candidates for its first ever edition, with a total of 888 contenders from more than 15 countries set to vie for the top prizes.

The winners will be announced on February 23 by a jury made up of professionals linked to the world of podcasts. There’ll be 15 awards in total, divided into three sections for national and international projects in Spanish with a further two specific prizes for podcasts in other languages.

The prizes will be handed out at a gala ceremony to be held before summer, at a date and location yet to be announced.

Categories

A total of 399 candidates have been entered into the General category, from among whom will be chosen the winners of the best fiction podcast, best narrative nonfiction podcast, best conversational podcast, best branded-podcast, best experimental podcast, best international non-Spanish-language podcast, and best podcast in a co-official language of Spain.

In the Specific category, awards will be given to the best production and sound design, best script,  best production, best episode, the best actor in audio fiction, and the best host. There are 415 entries for this category, making it the one with the most nominees.

Finally, the special prizes section includes 52 candidates who’ll be competing for the best newcomer podcast and a further 22 contenders for most outstanding contribution to the industry and the consolidation of podcasts in Spain and Latin America.

A PRISA Audio commitment

With the stated aim of giving greater visibility to the podcast industry and of paying tribute to the work of its professionals, PRISA Audio and Cadena SER, in collaboration with Spotify, have this year launched the first edition of the Ondas World Podcast Awards, dedicated exclusively to this sector in the Spanish-speaking world.

PRISA Audio is the transversal platform that brings together all the Group's podcast content: EL PAÍS, AS, Cadena SER, Podium Podcast, Cadena DIAL and LOS40, as well as the Latin American stations W Radio, Caracol Radio and ADN Chile, among others.

The First Edition of the Ondas World Podcast Awards follows in the footsteps of the Ondas Awards that PRISA gives out annually through Cadena SER’s Ràdio Barcelona. These are considered to be the oldest and most prestigious radio and television awards given in Spain. Last year’s 68th edition, held on November 16, was a record-breaking affair with a total of 550 entries received.
