18-07-2022

  • The appointment reinforces PRISA Media's commitment to the American market, where the company already leads as the world's top Spanish-language media group.
  • Cabrales, who will oversee and coordinate product and business operations throughout the Americas, will combine the position with his post of managing director at Caracol Radio.

PRISA Media continues to forge ahead with its commitment to the Spanish-speaking market, with the appointment of Felipe Cabrales as the new CEO of PRISA Media America. Cabrales will combine his new responsibilities with those of managing director of Caracol Radio, a position he has held since 2020.

With a long and successful track record in the media sector, Cabrales will now be overseeing the product and business operations of all PRISA Media assets in the Americas and will be working together with Fernando Carrillo, PRISA Media’s deputy director in the region, to further promote the Group's media as major players and as key drivers of debate.

The appointment is part of the company's expansion strategy aimed at positioning its global brands (El PAÍS, Diario AS, Los40, and Podium Podcast), as well as local ones. PRISA Media's radio stations are already clear leaders in Colombia, Mexico and Chile, with Caracol Radio, W Radio, Dial, ADN Radio, FMDos, KeBuena, Tropicana, Radioacktiva, and Bésame.

Carlos Núñez, executive chairperson of PRISA Media, said that “positioning the company in the American market is key to the Group's growth. The appointment of Felipe Cabrales, an outstanding professional with a thorough knowledge of the market, will enable us to forge ahead with the development of an inclusive and more agile decision-making structure, thereby increasing the potential of our brands and strengthening our media’s clear lead in the region”.

Felipe Cabrales, the new CEO of PRISA Media America, added that "it is a huge honor to be at the helm of the company in the Americas and to be able to work for the consolidation of the Spanish-speaking world’s top media Group, with global brands such as El PAÍS, AS and Los40, and to build on strength of our leadership in countries such as Chile, Mexico and, of course, Colombia”.

Felipe Cabrales will continue to head Caracol Radio, the Number One radio group in Colombia, a position he took on in February 2020, and where he has achieved significant results with growth for both music radio and digital business.

Felipe Cabrales Urdaneta (Barranquilla, 1977) graduated from the Universidad del Norte. Over the course of his 25-year career, he has been at the helm of major media in the region, including Caracol Radio, Discovery Communications, and agencies such as Mindshare.
