40 Principales supports Spain’s young contemporary art scene with the project Arte 40

14-02-2012

Music radio network 40 Principales, which belongs to PRISA Radio, is lending its support --through the project Arte 40 -- to young artists on the contemporary art scene, offering them a space to exhibit their works and thereby fostering Spanish artistic creativity.

Students and emerging artists (aged 18 to 40) nationwide are invited to submit their works in the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video, performance, sound and new media through the Arte40.es website. This online space encourages participation from anyone living in Spain and subsequently exhibits the works in Arte 40’s online gallery. Since its launch two weeks ago, there have been over 1200 artistic submissions.

After the submission deadline, on March 2, a shortlist of 40 artists will be selected by the jury, which includes, among others, Daniel Castillejo, director of the Museo Artium, Estrella de Diego, Professor of Contemporary Art at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Benjamin Weil, chief curator of the LABoral Centro de Arte y Creacion Industrial, and Karin Ohlenschläger, president of the Instituto del Arte Contemporáneo. These works will form part of the Arte 40 exhibition to be held from April 10 to May 10, at the Centro Arte Complutense de la Comunidad de Madrid. In addition, the jury will award three prizes of EUR 10,000, 6,000 and 4,000 to the most innovative works.

Arte 40 will also have an institutional space at the two most important events on the contemporary art scene in Spain, Arco and Justmad (February 15 to 19), where visitors will be able to learn more about this initiative.

In the coming months, Arte 40 will roll out a series of complementary activities, which we will be detailing soon.
