Àngels Barceló and a team of other SER journalists broadcast from Niger

18-05-2012

Ever since the campaign ´SER fights against hunger´ was launched, all of the workers at Spain´s premier radio network have shown their full involvement in informing their listeners and internet users about the severe situation the Sahel region is going through.  In the same way, SER´s website golescontraelhambre.com (goals against hunger) has been raising funds for this very cause ever since it was set up this past April.

Upon their arrival in Niger, Àngels Barceló and her team of journalists Nicolás Castellano, José Luis Sastre and Paco Quiroga, along withthe NGO Action against Hunger (ACF), will visit various nutritional centers, small villages and the homes of families with undernourished children and talk to refugees from Mali and the slums of Niamey and returning migrants from Libya and Ivory Coast.

Therefore on may 21st, throughout the day´s programming, the special ´SER fights against hunger from the Sahel´ will air, with live link-ups with the team, in every one of the network´s shows. Likewise at 21:00 in Hora 25 (Barcelo´s nightly news analysis program), the audience will be able to listen to the opinions and analysis of international experts from the likes of Antonio Guterres (UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency), Olivier Longué, Director-general of Action against Hunger (ACF), Thierry Métais, Director of ACF in Niger, members of the Spanish Office for International Cooperation in the region and representatives of various international organizations specialized in this field.

Through this special the social campaign ´SER fights against hunger´ reaches its second stage, after having successfully launched last April golescontraelhambre.com. Since then, thanks to network listeners´ solidarity, more than 22.000 goals have been scored against hunger. The campaign will reach its end on May 30th with the celebration in Seville of EncuentrosPOR, an event where Spanish and international experts will discuss the issue of hunger, focusing primarily on the situation in the Sahel
